  • Appearance: Boeseman's Rainbowfish is renowned for its vibrant and striking coloration, making it a centerpiece in many aquariums. It features a long, slender body adorned with iridescent scales that shimmer in shades of blue, green, yellow, and orange, reminiscent of a rainbow. Males are typically more colorful than females, exhibiting longer fins and more intense hues.

  • Habitat: Indigenous to the clear, freshwater streams and rivers of West Papua, Indonesia, Boeseman's Rainbowfish thrives in densely vegetated areas with slow to moderate water flow. In their natural habitat, they inhabit regions with abundant hiding spots among aquatic plants, driftwood, and rocks.

  • Behavior: Boeseman's Rainbowfish are peaceful and social creatures that prefer to live in groups of at least six individuals. They exhibit natural schooling behavior and feel more secure when kept with their own kind. Active swimmers, they explore all levels of the aquarium and add dynamic movement to the tank.

  • Diet: As omnivores, Boeseman's Rainbowfish have a diverse diet in the wild, consuming small insects, crustaceans, and plant matter. In captivity, they readily accept high-quality flake or pellet food as their primary diet. To maintain optimal health and vibrant coloration, it's essential to supplement their diet with live or frozen foods like bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

  • Water Parameters: Boeseman's Rainbowfish prefer slightly alkaline to neutral water conditions, with a pH range of 7.0 to 8.0. They thrive in moderately hard water, with a dH range of 10-15. Maintaining the water temperature between 75°F to 82°F (24°C to 28°C) is ideal for their well-being.
