  • The Red Cap Oranda is a popular variety of goldfish known for its distinctive appearance.

  • Appearance: Red Cap Orandas have a characteristic hood or "wen" on their heads, which is a fleshy growth covering the top of their heads and extending over their gill plates. This hood gives them a unique appearance. As the name suggests, they have a red-colored hood, contrasting with the rest of their body, which is typically metallic white or orange.

  • Size: These goldfish can grow quite large, reaching lengths of up to 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimeters) in a well-maintained aquarium or pond environment.

  • Care: Red Cap Orandas require similar care to other goldfish varieties. They thrive in a spacious tank or pond with plenty of room to swim and explore. Regular water changes, good filtration, and a balanced diet are essential for their health and well-being.

  • Tankmates: They are generally peaceful fish and can be kept with other goldfish varieties as well as other peaceful community fish species. However, care should be taken to ensure tankmates are not overly aggressive or prone to fin-nipping.

  • Feeding: Red Cap Orandas are omnivores and will eat a varied diet. High-quality flakes or pellets specifically formulated for goldfish, as well as occasional treats such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, or blanched vegetables, are suitable for their diet.

  • Temperature and Water Parameters: They prefer cooler water temperatures ranging from 65°F to 75°F (18°C to 24°C). pH levels should be kept between 6.5 and 7.5, and ammonia and nitrite levels should be kept at zero.
