Panchax fish, also known as Aplocheilus lineatus, are a species of freshwater fish belonging to the family Aplocheilidae.

  • Appearance: Panchax fish have elongated bodies with streamlined shapes, typical of many freshwater fish species. They usually have a silver or gold base coloration with iridescent blue or green hues, especially on their scales and fins. The body is often adorned with horizontal stripes that can vary in intensity and coloration depending on the individual and its environment.

  • Size: Panchax fish are relatively small, with adults typically reaching lengths of 2 to 3 inches (5 to 7.5 centimeters). However, there can be variations in size depending on factors such as genetics, diet, and environmental conditions.

  • Habitat: Panchax fish are native to freshwater habitats in various regions, including parts of Asia and Africa. They are often found in slow-moving or stagnant waters such as streams, ponds, marshes, and rice fields. Panchax fish prefer densely vegetated areas with plenty of hiding spots and shaded areas.

  • Behavior: Panchax fish are generally peaceful and can be kept in community aquariums with other small, non-aggressive fish species. However, they can be territorial, especially during breeding or when establishing a hierarchy within a group. It's essential to provide ample space and hiding places to reduce aggression and stress.

  • Diet: Panchax fish are omnivorous and will accept a varied diet in captivity. They primarily feed on small invertebrates, insects, crustaceans, and zooplankton in the wild. In aquariums, they can be fed a diet consisting of high-quality flake or pellet food supplemented with live or frozen foods such as bloodworms, brine shrimp, and daphnia.

  • Tank Requirements: Panchax fish are relatively hardy and adaptable, making them suitable for beginner aquarists. They require a well-maintained aquarium with stable water parameters, including temperature, pH, and hardness. A tank size of at least 10 gallons is recommended for a small group of Panchax fish, with ample hiding places provided by plants, rocks, or driftwood.
