The Yellow Shrimp, also known as the Neocaridina davidi var. "Yellow" or "Golden" shrimp, is a popular freshwater shrimp species in the aquarium hobby.
 
Appearance: As the name suggests, Yellow Shrimp display a bright yellow coloration, ranging from pale yellow to intense golden hues. Their entire body, including their exoskeleton and appendages, is typically yellow, although some specimens may have variations in color intensity or patterns.
Size: Yellow Shrimp are relatively small and typically grow to about 1 to 1.5 inches (2.5 to 3.8 centimeters) in length as adults.
Behavior: Yellow Shrimp are peaceful and social creatures that spend much of their time grazing on algae and scavenging for food. They are active and can often be seen exploring their environment, including plants, rocks, and substrate, in search of food and hiding spots.
Habitat: Yellow Shrimp are native to Taiwan and are bred in captivity for the aquarium trade. They thrive in freshwater aquariums with stable water parameters and plenty of hiding places. Live plants, driftwood, and rocks provide both shelter and grazing surfaces for these shrimp.
Tank Requirements: To keep Yellow Shrimp healthy and thriving, provide them with a well-maintained aquarium with stable water parameters. They prefer temperatures between 65°F and 80°F (18°C to 26°C) and a pH range of 6.5 to 7.5. Ammonia and nitrite levels should be kept at zero, and regular water changes are essential to maintain water quality.
Diet: Yellow Shrimp are omnivores and will consume a variety of foods, including algae, biofilm, decaying plant matter, and commercial shrimp pellets or flakes. They also enjoy occasional treats such as blanched vegetables (e.g., zucchini, spinach, or kale), algae wafers, and small amounts of protein-rich foods like bloodworms or brine shrimp.
