Frontosa cichlids, are a species of freshwater fish that are popular among aquarium enthusiasts due to their unique appearance and interesting behaviors. Proper care and diet are essential to keep these fish healthy and happy in captivity.

Here are some guidelines for caring for Frontosa fish:

Frontosa calvus fish require a spacious aquarium with a minimum of 250 liters of water. It is important to provide ample space for these fish to swim and establish their territories.

  1. Water quality: Frontosa calvus fish are sensitive to poor water quality, so it is important to maintain a clean and stable environment. Regular water changes and the use of a good quality water filter are recommended. The ideal water parameters for Frontosa calvus fish are pH 7.8-8.6, temperature 26-28°C, and hardness of 10-20 dGH.

  2. Tank setup: Frontosa calvus fish are rock-dwelling fish, so it is recommended to provide them with a setup that includes plenty of hiding places, caves, and rocky structures. They prefer a sandy or fine gravel substrate that can mimic their natural habitat in Lake Tanganyika.

  3. Diet: Frontosa calvus fish are omnivores, but their diet should primarily consist of high-quality protein-rich foods such as pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, krill, and bloodworms. It is important to feed them a balanced diet to ensure proper nutrition.

  4. Social behavior: Frontosa calvus fish are social and prefer to live in groups, so it is recommended to keep them in a group of at least 6 individuals. However, it is important to monitor their behavior as they may establish a hierarchy and aggression can occur.

  5. Compatibility: Frontosa calvus fish are generally peaceful and can be kept with other non-aggressive species that share similar water parameters. However, it is best to avoid keeping them with aggressive or territorial fish as they can become stressed and intimidated.

By following these guidelines, you can provide the best care for your Frontosa fish and enjoy their unique beauty and behaviors in your aquarium.
